这次在中山展出的夜明珠共有25件，是广东地区首次数量最多的一次夜明珠盛会，其中最大的一颗夜明珠直径约25厘米，售价高达98万元人民币。由于夜明珠质地非常脆，所以要把它雕琢成夜光杯、坐佛、三脚蟾等工艺品的技术要求非常高。
夜明珠古称“夜光石”、“明月石”、“随珠”，能自然发出荧光，在不同气温环境下会变色。世界上除夜明珠外，目前尚未发现任何一种自然物品能在黑夜间发出荧光及变色。夜明珠的颜色有纯绿、蓝绿、紫黑等，这次亮相中山的夜明珠则多为深绿色。根据中医药方面的记载，夜明珠还有一定的医学功能。 |
